On the third day of the 2021 European Champions Cup, the following games were (re)scheduled: Parmaclima @ Arrows Ostrava, Curaçao Neptunus @ Heidenheim Heideköpfe, Parmaclima @ L&D Amsterdam Pirates, Heidenheim Heideköpfe @ Rouen Huskies, Curaçao Neptunus @ Fortitudo Bologna, and Arrows Ostrava @ Bonn Capitals.
Parmaclima 13 – 8 Arrows Ostrava
Arrows Ostrava wasn’t blown away but never really stood a chance vs. Parmaclima. Every time Ostrava scored runs, Parma countered with more runs. With Parma also having a second game today right after this one, it would have been nice if they could have finished this one in seven innings. But Ostrave didn’t want to cooperate. As Parma had a 7-0 lead, Ostrava managed got back in the game when a wild pitch and a double allowed them to score three runs in the fourth inning. But Parma countered in the next two innings as it scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, to nullify the three Ostrava runs. In the seventh inning, Arrows Ostrava rallied to stay in the game. A double, three singles and two walks led to four runs. But once again, Parma countered. In the top of the eighth inning, singles by Stefano Desimoni and Tommaso Battioni drove in three runs that gave Parma another firm lead. Arrows would score one run in the ninth despite loading the bases.
Mattia Aldegheri pitched 6.2 innings for the win. He gave up five runs on five hits and four walks and struck out five. Alexandr Sin took the loss. In four innings, he gave up seven runs on six hits and three walks as he struck out two.
Parma’s best hitter was Stefano Desimoni, who went 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Curaçao Neptunus vs Heidenheim Heideköpfe
Parmaclima vs L&D Amsterdam
Heidenheim Heideköpfe 19 – 6 Rouen Huskies
In a terribly lopsided game, the Heidenheim Heideköpfe were way too strong for Rouen Huskies. In the first three innings, the Huskies could keep pace and even had a 3-2 lead but in the fourth, the French pitching collapsed and was beaten up for eight runs.
After another huge inning in the fifth, it was game over figuratively speaking as the gap was too big for Rouen to overcome.
Elian Gentner earned the win. In three innings, he allowed two hits, walked two and struck out one. Thibault Mercadier took the loss. He struggled through 3.2 innings in which he allowed nine runs (four earned!!) on five hits and six walks and struck out three.
The best hitter for the Heideköpfe was Ludwig Glaser, who went 3 for 3 with two runs scored.
Curaçao Neptunus vs Fortitudo Bologna
Arrows Ostrava – Bonn Capitals
With a spot in the semi-finals and a first place finish in Group A secured already, the Bonn Capitals appeared not to care much about the game. After two and a half innings, the team trailed the Ostrava Arrows 13-0. In the bottom of the third, Bonn salvaged the honour when it scored four runs on three singles and a sac fly. Eventually, Ostrava would score five more runs and Bonn three. Like the previous game between Curaçao Neptunus and Fortitudo Bologna, this game also lasted seven innings.
Marko Vykoukal earned the win. In seven innings, he gave up seven runs on ten hits and three walks as he struck out five. Joseph Wittig took the loss. He allowed seven runs on two hits and seven walks in two innings. He struck out two.
The best hitter for Arrows Ostrava was Michael Vykoukal, who went 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored.
