Didi day-to-day

In Thursday’s game vs the Diamondbacks, Didi Gregorius hurt his left fingers as he tried to make a play. Yesterday, in the game vs the Red Sox, he was kept out of the lineup. According to manager Aaron Boone, Didi is pretty sore.

In a play vs the D-backs, Didi strained a muscle between his left ring finger and pinkie.
“His wrist is good. It’s his finger – his knuckle area – he’s got a strain in there, so he’s day-to-day.”  “He’s pretty sore today,” manager Aaron Boone said. “We’re hoping to avoid an IL situation, but we’ll just kind of see how that unfolds now over the next couple days,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated before Friday’s series opener against the Red Sox.

Gregorius missed the first two months of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Since his return from the IL, he is performing well as he slashes .271/.305/.465 with a .770 OPS in 39 games. Gleyber Torres was starting at shortstop in place of Gregorius in Friday’s game vs the Red Sox. Torres contributed to the Yankees’ win with a grand slam home run.

With still plenty of regulars on the IL, Didi may also end up there. But for now, he is closely monitored as the Yankees hope he will be able to play in a couple of days.
