Dutch hoofdklasse 2018: Round 9, day 2

On day two of round nine, L&D Amsterdam Pirates hosted De Glaskoning Twins, HCAW hosted Curaçao Neptunus, Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort headed to The Hague to face Silicon Storks and Hoofddorp Pioniers hosted DSS.

De Glaskoning Twins  1  –  6  L&D Amsterdam Pirates
One big inning made the difference today. For six innings De Glaskoning Twins managedTwins to stay in the game defensive wise but in the bottom of the seventh their defense collapsed and L&D Amsterdam Pirates managed to score five runs to extend their lead to 6-0. In the batter’s box, Twins never could claim the victory as they were kept in check by Kevin Heijstek. Heijstek pitched seven solid innings in which he gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out four. The only run Twins scored came in the eighth when Brian Biezen tripled once again and scored on Dave Janssen’s 4-3 groundout.
Misja Harcksen kept pace with Kevin Heijstek rather well until that seventh inning. With two outs and runners in scoring position, he intentionally loaded the bases. But then an HBP, a passed ball, a single and a dropped fly ball drove in five runs to end the Amsterdam Piratesaspirations of Twins.
Kevin Heijstek earned the win. Misja Harcksen took the loss.
Best hitter for L&D Amsterdam Pirates was Niels van Weert, who went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

DSS  3  –  3  Hoofddorp Pioniers
Another tied game for DSS and Hoofddorp Pioniers in Hoofddorp today.
DSS After DSS had taken a 2-0 lead in the third inning, things looked a bit gloomy for Pioniers as the team only reached second base once until the seventh inning. But in that seventh frame, Pioniers tied the game at two. Tim Halderman recorded two quick outs but then failed to get out of the inning. With two walks and a single he loaded the bases before he was replaced by Reggie Bomberg. But Bomberg could not stop Hoofddorp’s offense as he gave up a two-run single to Mark Smit.
Both teams scored once in the ninth, so with a 3-3 score extra innings were needed.
DSS had a runner in scoring position in the 10th, 11th and 12th inning but did not cash in. Pioniers only had a runner in scoring position in the 11th inning but also failed toPioniers force a decision.
For Hoofddorp, Mervin Gario was the best hitter as he went 2 for 2 with a run scored. Koen Werkman was the best hitter for DSS with two hits out of five at bats and a run scored. This tied game was DSS’ fourth tie and Pioniers’ fifth.

Curaçao Neptunus  1  –  8  HCAW
Last Thursday, HCAW made Neptunus work for its money as it lost by only two runs butNeptunus today the club showed it has a rightful place in the top four of the hoofdklasse right now.
Especially after the team outscored (8-1)and outhit (13-5) Curaçao Neptunus today. Orlando Yntema, who is in a great shape all season, had a bad day today as he lasted only three innings in which he gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks. But in general the Neptunus pitching staff had a hard time today. Only Loek van Mil and Taylor Clemensia managed to keep HCAW from scoring. Berry van Driel gave up two unearned runs on two hits and Jiorgeny Casimiri gave up two runs on three hits and a walk.
On the side of HCAW, Kaj Timmermans pitched seven solid innings in which he surrendered only one run on five hits and two walks as he struck out one. Ian Delamarre HCAWpitched two perfect innings in the eighth and the ninth.
Julian Goins was the best hitter for HCAW with two hits out of three at bats with one RBI.
The sixth inning was HCAW’s biggest thanks to a walk, a stolen base, a sac fly, a wild pitch, a fielding error, a triple and two singles, HCAW scored four runs to secure the 8-1 win.

Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort  6  –  4  Silicon Storks
Another game, another loss for Silicon Storks. But this time, the club managed to keep track with their opponent rather well as it lost by only two runs.
Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort took a 3-0 lead in the first thanks to two singles and two doubles. But Silicon Storks would get back in the game in the fourth inning when a double by Gino Gil and a single by Runai Coran put runners on base for the club from The Hague. A single by Kris Morris drove in two runs.
Quick Amersfoort would score three more runs, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Storks started a rally in the ninth that led to two runs but from there the offense stalled. Afbeeldingsresultaat voor silicon storks
Luis Figuera earned the win. In seven innings he gave up two runs on three hits and fanned six. Martin Kram took the loss as he gave up six runs (four earned) in seven innings.
Best hitter for Quick Amersfoort was Tijmen Takke, who is having a hell of a season. Takke went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
