Quick Amersfoort firmly in fourth place after win

In a deferred match, HCAW hosted Quick Amersfoort. Quick was the better team as it pushed HCAW further down into the relegation zone. Even though the score was rather close, Quick Amersfoort never really got into trouble and won 6-3.

A surprising starting pitcher for Quick Amersfoort as Pastor Martinez took the mound as a starter for the first time this season. So far the pitcher with Nicaraguan roots had some relief appearances in which he did not really stand out. But with tonight’s outing, Martinez lowered his ERA from 7.04 to 5.54.

In the second inning, Quick Amersfoort opened the score when Taylor Clemensia led off with a double, followed by a groundout by Rowan van Hoek on which Clemensia advanced to third. A wild pitch by Dennis Burgersdijk allowed him to score the opening run.

With two two-run innings, Quick Amersfoort extended their lead to 5-0. It took HCAW until the sixth inning to get on the board. With the bases loaded, Ruendrick Piternella singled to center field and drove in Oliver van der Wijst and Jeandro Tromp. One inning later, Bob van der Meer singled home Jeandro Tromp to cut Quick’s lead in half after the Amersfoort based team had scored in the top of the sixth inning.

In 5.1 innings, Pastor Martinez allowed two runs on four hits and four walks and struck out four for his first win of the season. Dennis Burgersdijk, last year a decent pitcher, but this year, like his team, struggling. Dennis lasted only 3.1 innings and allowed five runs (just two earned) on four hits and four walks and took the loss.
Jasper Popken earned the save as he lasted one inning in which he struck out one.

In five innings, Quick Amersfoort collected only five runs. Taylor Clemensia and Jordy Burger went 1 for 3. Clemensia drove in one run and scored one while Burger scored thrice.
