Last Appalachian League team unveils moniker

The former Princeton Rays have unveiled its new name today. Since the club, like the other ones, was left alone by their parent clubs to safe money and the Appy League became a collegiate wood bat league, the Princeton franchise had to look for a different name.

The new name is Princeton WhistlePigs. What’s a whistle pig? Whistle Pig is Appalachia slang for a groundhog. Even though the name wasn’t officially presented yet, it could be read on the club’s Twitter account.

The city of Princeton held a 9-minute press conference to announce the name.
The new name is following the trend of weird animal-like names. The logo shows a groundhog peering over the top of the part of the logo that shows the moniker. There is nothing wrong with the name itself as it is an existing word. But the logo is rather dull. The club could have done so much more with it.

Strange enough, no further information has been provided yet. Not through the club’s Twitter account, neither through the Appalachian League’s website.
