Yesterday the Minor Leagues celebrated Opening Day. Several Dutchies are playing in the minors.
AAA
Roger Bernadina shared the misery of the Albuquerque Isotopes as they fell to the Reno Aces 8-2. Roger went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. He made a couple of fly outs in right field.
AA
Despite the fact that several Dutchies are playing at AA level, only one saw action yesterday:
The Frisco RoughRiders lost to the Arkansas Travelers 8-4, but Christopher Garia played a good game. He went 2 for 5 and struck out once. He made the final (fly) out of the first inning, but wasn’t able to make any outs later in the game.
A Advanced
Carlton Daal debuted at A Advanced level with the Daytona Tortugas of the Florida State League. In four at bats Daal did not collect a hit but he drove in a runner on a 5-3 ground out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Spencer Kieboom went 1 for 4 in the Nationals 8-6 loss vs the Lynchburg HillCats. With his sole hit he drove in a run in the ninth as part of a six run rally, but eventually the Nationals fell short. Spencer also struck out twice and left a runner on base.
A Full Season
The Peoria Chiefs lost vs the Quad City RiverBandits by 7-3. Darren Seferina went 1 for 3, which eventually led to a run and he drew a bases loading walk. He showed that he knows the basics when he took over first base when Bobby Boyd of the RiverBandits laid down a sac bunt. Seferina was also the center piece of an inning ending 6-4-3 double play in the ninth.
The Lakewood BlueClaws beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 2-1. Jiandido Tromp caught one fly ball in right field in the fifth inning but he wasn’t able to contribute with his bat as he went 0 for 3 with two Ks.
The Rome Braves lost 4-3 to the Asheville Tourists. Ozhaino Albies batted lead off but did not collect a hit in four at bats. He struck out twice. He made a couple of 6-3 ground outs and caught a pop up.
Shawn Duinkerk didn’t play as the game of his Beloit Snappers was rained out as were the games of the Dayton Dragons and the Clinton LumberKings as well, so Chadwick Tromp and Gianfranco Wawoe didn’t play either.
