After what has happened in the past year in MLB (not punishing the Astros players that cheated their way to the 2017 World Series win, fighting with players about who should pay for the losses of the 2020 season, and the mutilation of Minor League Baseball), I loathe MLB and its greedy owners.
But yesterday, after the the implementation of voter suppressing laws by the Republican Party in Georgia, MLB had the guts to take the 2021 All Star Game away from the Atlanta Braves because MLB, as Rob Manfred stated, “fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box.”
I could only applaud that move. MLB had regained a little bit of my respect.
But then I bumped into this 2017 statement by MLB. I wrote about this in 2016 but I totally forgot about it:

This puts the decision of pulling the 2021 All Star Game away from Atlanta in a different perspective completely. How about the treatment of the Uyghurs by the Chinese government? How about the suppression of the Democratic movement in Hong Kong?
If civil rights are really this important to MLB, when will the greedy MLB owners stop cooperating with China? When will it pull back from a country that doesn’t value civil rights and democracy as MLB claims to do?
This shows how much of a hypocrite bunch Manfred and the MLB owners are. They regained a bit of my respect after the decision to pull the All Star Game from Atlanta, but within 24 hours they lost it again.
