For a long time, Aruban catcher Chadwick Tromp was in the mix for a spot on the Opening Day roster of the San Francisco Giants but tonight, the club presented its Opening Day roster and the name of Chadwick wasn’t on it.
In fact, it was already clear on July 19 when Chadwick was appointed to the Giants’ alternate training site.
As a non-roster invitee, there was a slim chance he would make the roster but at times he put up some nice numbers during “Spring Training.” But overall his numbers at bat could not convince the Giants to give him a spot on their Opening Day roster as he batted a modest .231 in nine games and thirteen at-bats. On the defensive side, he excelled as he did not commit an error in five games of which two starts. He threw out one base runner at a stealing attempt.
But with the short but loaded season, an injury is easily sustained, so there is still a chance that Chadwick will make his MLB debut later this year.
