Today in baseball: One game, four attempts

Today 106 years ago, an American Association game between the Minneapolis Millers and the Indianapolis Indians finally finish after four attempts as the Millers beat the Indians 11-2.

The Indianapolis Indians weren’t quite successful in that 1913 season. At the end, the team finished dead last with a 68-99 record, thirty-two games out of first place. The Minneapolis Millers, the AA champions of the previous three years, remained a contender until the final week of the season as it finished three games out of first place behind the Milwaukee Brewers. As the Indians had a bad season, the 11-2 loss on that eighth of August can be explained.

The original date of the game was April 25. But that game was called at a 1-1 tie due to rain. On June 15, the game was played again and after nine innings with the score tied at six, the game was called due to darkness. About a month and a half later, on August 7, the third attempt is made to play this game and finish it. But…. once again, the game is called due to darkness after thirteen innings with the score tied at two.

But finally, on August 8, 1913, the game will start once more and will be finished as the Minneapolis Millers beat the Indians 11-2.
