Marlins Man has enough

You may all know Marlins Man. The guy who always shows up behind home plate during World Series Games when he wears his orange Marlins jersey. This avid Marlins fan used to be a season ticket holder since 1993 but not anymore. He has enough.

According to a tweet by Barry Jackson, Marlins Man has decided not to renew his season ticket for the 2018 season.

Through the years, Marlins fans had a lot to endure. Crappy rosters, fire sales and an owner who was hardly willing to spend on his team. An owner who did not seem to be interested in winning.

With the new ownership group, there may have been some new hope but that hope was slashed rather quick as the Marlins started to trade away players with big contracts. The new ownership group was forced to do so because the previous owner Jeffrey Loria left a financial mess.

In the last couple of weeks, the Marlins were pretty desperate to get rid of their players. The most eye-catching trade was the one of Giancarlo Stanton, who was traded to the Yankees in exchange of Starlin Castro and two minor leaguers of which only one was in the top ten of Yankee prospects.

Another player who was traded, even though he earned a modest $3.5 million in2017 was Marcell Ozuna. But Ozuna would be eligible for arbitration in the next two seasons, so the Marlins would have to spend more on him. Therefore they traded him to the Cardinals in exchange for RHPs Sandy Alcantara and Zac Gallen, OF Magneuris Sierra and LHP Daniel Castano.

Also Dee Gordon was shipped away. Gordon would have earned a total of $50 million in base salary in the coming four seasons, so the Marlins traded him to the Mariners.  The Mariners on their turn sent RHPs Robert Dugger and Nick Neidert and INF Christopher Torres to Miami.

With this fire sale, the Marlins will not field a contender for sure in 2018. And this is exactly why the Marlins Man called it quits. In his opinion, it is inexcusable the Marlins will field an AAA team while they charge MLB prices for their tickets.

If an avid fan like him does not renew his season ticket, you can count on it that Marlins Park will look very empty for the biggest part of the 2018 season.
