Brooklyn Cyclones to be named Coney Island Franks

Yes, the Brooklyn Cyclones will change their name into Coney Island Franks. But…. don’t worry, it is only for one night. It is a similar promotion like the Fresno Grizzlies (Fresno Tacos) and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Lehigh Valley Cheesesteaks).

This promotion will be held on July 3rd, one day before the  world series of competitive eating – the Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest – which is held just around the corner from MCU Park. Nathan’s is the world famous hotdog joint in Brooklyn. And believe me, those hot dogs are great. The Franks will face the Connecticut Tigers in that game.

This summer Nathan’s will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. The business was started in 1916 with a small hot dog stand opened up by a Polish immigrant, Nathan Handwerker. Over 435 billion Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs have been sold ever since. The company also has several branches in the New York area. One can be found at the international airport of Newark.

The Cyclones / Franks will wear a special white,  blue sleeved jersey with a yellow script saying Coney Island Brooklyn. On top of the special jersey, the Franks will wear a blue cap with a yellow crown, showing the same sausage as the cap below.

As a part of this themed night, the first 2,000 fans that will enter the Cyclones’ ballpark, will receiver a snap back Franks cap to commemorate the name change.

All night there will be hot dog themed dishes; information about these dishes will be released on the website of the Cyclones in the coming weeks. To end the night the Cyclones will kick off the 4th of July celebrations with a big fireworks.
