Rodney Daal released by Evansville Otters

Yesterday Dutch catcher Rodney Daal was released by the Evansville Otters. Daal, Amsterdam native signed a deal with the Otters in February, hardly played for the club from the independent Frontier League. After spring training he was placed on the DL and it took him until June 11 to get back on the roster.

He only played one game in which he went 0 for 3, drew a walk and struck out once.

After the 2014 season, the Padres released Rodney because of a 100 game suspension due to the use of forbidden substances. Probably, that made him undesirable for other MLB organizations, since he didn’t sign a deal with a big league club.

Edit: I just found out that in the one game that he played, he got injured again. Since I learned from Kalian Sams, who played for the Bridgeport BlueFish in the Atlantic League, that players who are injured in indy baseball, won’t be kept on the team for long, because the club cannot afford it to keep them without playing, it is very likely that the injury is the reason for his release. A complete different situation compared to affiliated ball.
