Dutch Hoofdklasse, Sunday June 21

On day three of round two in the second half of the 2015 season, the following games were scheduled:

Curacao Neptunus @ Corendon Kinheim; Pronto DSS @ Mampaey the Hawks; Vaessen Pioniers @ UVV and L&D Amsterdam Pirates @ HCAW.

Due to heavy rainfall, the game between Vaessen Pioniers and UVV was cancelled. It will be played on Tuesday June 23.

Curacao Neptunus @ Corendon Kinheim  11 – 1

In a very one-sided game, Curacao Neptunus took a 3-1 lead in the first inning. One run in the fifth and two in the sixth, gave Neptunus a 6-1 lead. A blow out inning in the eighth ended the game in mercy rule fashion. With Arshwin Asjes on the mound, and one out, Adrian Anthony drew a walk and advanced to second base on a basehit by Gyenuar Lopez. When Shaldimar Daantji hit towards the left side of the infield, shortstop Dudley Leonora committed a throwing error that allowed Daantji to advance to second, Lopez to advance to third and Anthony to score. Stijn van der Meer hit a 4-3 ground out that drove in Gyenuar Lopez. A single b Dwayne Kemp put runners on the corners before Benjamin Dille tripled down the right field line. Both runners scored on Dille’s hit, who eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Orlando Yntema clinched the win after pitching seven full innings in which he allowed one run on six hits. He fanned three.
Glen Wassink lasted five innings and gave up six runs on nine hits for the loss. He walked two and struck out one.
As a team Kinheim collected six hits of which Victor Draijer got two in four at bats. Gyenuar Lopez went 3 for 4 for Neptunus and drove in two runs.

Pronto DSS @ Mampaey the Hawks  10 – 5

After two close games, DSS won with much more than a one-run margin. After the third inning, the Haarlem based team had a 3-1 lead but in the fourth inning they would step on it a bit more.
After Stijn Gabriels drew a walk and stole second, he scored on a double down the right field line hit by Jeoffrey Heus. After Mitchell Dautzenberg’s single towards second base put runners on the corners, he stole second base. When catcher Brian Raap made a throwing error in an attempt to throw out Mitchell Dautzenberg at his base stealing attempt, Jeoffrey Heus scored the fifth run for DSS. Dautzenberg advanced to third on the error and even could score on a throwing error by center fielder Steven Wharwood. After Mark Smit singled, he scored on Ryan Miner’s single to right center field.
Eventually Pronto DSS scored three more runs. Mampaey the Hawks didn’t manage to score more than four, so the final score was 10-5 in DSS’ advantage. Tim Halderman earned the win. He pitched six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits. He walked two and struck out six. Enoch Deaton was tabbed with the loss after he was pulled after four innings in which he allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits. Deaton walked one and struck out three. Despite going 4 for 5, Mark Smit didn’t drive in any run. Ryan Miner had the most impact for DSS as he drove in four runs with only two hits out of four at bats. Brian Raap drove in one run for the Hawks as he went 2 for 3 with a double.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates @ HCAW  10 – 1

HCAW took a 1-0 lead when Kevin Nieveld drove in Raoull Kortstam from third when he hit into a force out at second base.

For four innings, HCAW’s Maickel Rietel kept L&D Amsterdam in check very well, but then in the top of the fifth, the defense collapsed and Rietel had some control issues. When Roelie Henrique grounded into a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded, Rashid Gerard scored the game tying run. After Rietel gave up a walk that loaded the bases again, Remco Draijer drew another walk that gave Pirates the 2-1 lead. This was the sign for manager Ralph Milliard to pull Maickel Rietel and replace him with Steven van Groningen.

Eventually L&D Amsterdam Pirates scored four more runs (all unearned) to take a 6-1 lead. From that moment on, Pirates cruised to a 10-1 win as the defense of HCAW crumbled. Despite pitching four strong innings, Maickel Rietel was tabbed with the loss. In 4.2 innings, he gave up five unearned runs on three hits. Rietel walked three and struck out one. Kyle Ward earned the win. In six innings, he gave up one run on eight hits. Ward walked one and struck out seven. Remco Draijer went 3 for 4 with an RBI for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Jarreau Martina and Roy Seltenreich both went 2 for 4 but didn’t drive in a run.
