Moncada to Red Sox for record signing bonus

Yoan Moncada has signed a deal with the Red Sox. The Sox are paying him a record signing bonus of $31.5 million dollars.
I have mixed feelings about this deal. At one hand I wish that the Yankees had signed him but at the other hand, paying $31.5 million for a player that has not seen any major league pitching….  I know that I wrote that the Yankees would better sign him and that it would be worth the risk. Probably it is worth the risk; almost every expert says that he is the real deal.

But if an even bigger talent rears up in the coming two years, the Red Sox cannot sign him. It may be a calculated risk.
How long will it take before this kid hits the Majors? And what to do with Dustin Pedroia, who is still under contract until 2021. Will the Sox trade Pedey? Pedroia is 31 right now. When the contract ends he will be 38. I cannot imagine that they will keep him at second with Moncada around.

The Yankees have Rob Refsnyder in the waiting room. I think he will make the 25 -man roster this season, probably coming off the bench. It remains to be seen if it was a wise decsion not to outbid the Red Sox. If Moncade really is the real deal, he may be a very nice double play combo with Xander Bogaerts.
