Jonathan Schoop is red hot

Jonathan, another successful infielder from Curacao, next to Andrelton Simmons and DIdi Gregorius, had a rough start of the season. On April 18 he injured his knee and it took him quite a while before he could start a rehab stint with the AA Bowie BaySox. Even with the BaySox it took him a while before he started to find his groove. But eventually he started to hit better and hit homeruns in three consecutive games with the AA club.

Eventually he was called up by the O’s on July 5th. And immediately he made his presence felt as he hit a homerun in his first at bat. When he returned from the DL, he was hitting a decent .259, which is a lot better than the .209 he batted last season.

Lately Jonathan is riding a hot streak. In last night’s game vs the Athletics, he went 3 for 4 with a double and scored the fifth and ninth run for the O’s. In his last seven games before last night’s game, he was hitting .278 with 5 hits in 18 at bats. But the performance in last night’s game, made his batting average surge to a very respectable .290.

Jonathan Schoop was also part of the Dutch national team that won the 2011 World Cup. He made the final out of the finale vs Cuba as he caught a soft line drive, hit by Hector Olivera Jr as you can see in this footage. Go to 0:58 to see Schoop make the final out.
