In the mean time the minor league play offs are on their way. In many leagues, the championship series are about to start or have started already.
AAA
Shawn Zarraga and the Oklahoma City Dodgers have made it to the championship series of the Pacific Coast League. The team beat the Nashville Sounds in five games.
In those games Shawn did not get much playing time. He played in two games, one as a catcher and one as a DH. In those two games he went 1 for 7 (.143).
Yesterday the first game of the championship series was played against the El Paso Chihuahuas and lost 7-5. Shawn did not get playing time in that game.
A Advanced
Juremi Profar and the High Desert Mavericks have advanced to the California League’s championship series. The Mavericks beat the Lancaster JetHawks in four games. Now the Mavs will face the Visalia Rawhide.
Juremi Profar played very well in the series vs Lancaster. He hit 9 for 20 (.450) in four games in which he also committed two throwing errors.
Since the Mavericks are in their final year in Adelanto (contraction of the team and moving to Kinston on the East Coast), it would be nice if the team can finish its tenure in Adelanto with a championship. It would be something special as the team won the California League crown in its inaugural year 1991 too.
The Lynchburg HillCats and Sicnarf Loopstok have advanced to the Carolina League championship series too. In the semis vs the Potomac Nationals, Loopstok did not get any playing time. After three games into the championship series, Sicnarf only played last night as he got a pinch hit appearance and played as a catcher in the ninth inning. In his sole at bat, Sicnarf struck out.
A Full Season
The Rome Braves and Ray Patrick Didder and Kevin Josephina moved on to the championship series of the South Atlantic League as they beat the Charleston RiverDogs 2-1 in the semis. After losing the first game against the Lakewood BlueClaws 5-0, the Braves bounced back as they won the second game 6-1.
Ray Patrick Didder went 0 for 4 in the first championship game but went 1 for 3 and scored a run in the second.
Kevin Josephina did not collect a hit in the championship series so far.
A Short Season
Chris Pieters and the Eugene Emeralds ended a fourty year championship drought.
The Emeralds beat the Everett AquaSox 2-1 in the championship series of the Northwest League. Chris Pieters went 2 for 11 in the championship series.
