FIBS Releases Schedule of 2022 Serie A

The Italian Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS) has released the schedule of the 2022 Serie A season. Unlike last season, when there were eight groups of four teams, there will be three groups of eight teams and one of seven teams this year.

The federal council of the FIBS announced the 2022 schedule. Next to that, it also announced a growth of members with 13.3% to 20,432.

The first part of the season will start on April 2nd and will run through May 16th and will be played on Fridays and Saturdays, except for May 15 and 16, which will be a Saturday and a Sunday.

The four groups of the round-robin will contain the following clubs:

* will represent the Serie A in the upcoming European Champions Cup in Bonn.

After this round-robin, the numbers 1 and 2 of each group will qualify for the championship group or Pool Scudetto. This championship round will be played in two groups (region A1 and B1). The champions round will be played on Thursday and Friday nights and will start on May 27/28, June 3/4, June 10/11, July 29/30, August 5/6, and August 12/13.

The number 1 finishers of Region A1 and B1 will advance to the Italian Series to play for the Italian championship. 

The numbers 3 through 8 of each group will play in the salvation round or Pool Salvezza. This pool will be split into four groups (region D1, E1, F1, and G1), three with six teams and one with five. The games in this salvation round will be played on Fridays and Saturdays, from May 28/29 through July 2/3, and on Thursday and Friday nights from July 8/9 through July 29/30.

Three teams that end at the bottom of Region C1, D1, and G1 will play for demotion, likely with teams from the Serie B in a promotion/relegation competition.
