After two easy victories vs Slovakia (15-0) and Austria (21-0), the Dutch faced the Czech Republic, normally a force to reckon with. But also the Czechs would be roped to the Dutch chariot.
In the Czech Republic, the Dutch faced the other unbeaten opponent in their group.
The Czechs reached the final of the U15 European Championship ten times and clinched the European title in 2004, 2007 and 2016. Of the six times both teams faced each other in the final, both won three times.
Even though the Czechs were limited to three base hits, the team managed to score seven runs. Trailing 9-2 at the start of the sixth inning, the team flexed its muscles and scored five runs on two hits. The Dutch pitching struggled with its control in that inning. Two HBP, two walks, a wild pitch and two singles led to the aforementioned five runs.
The Dutch on their turn scored four more times in the sixth to stay out of striking distance. Also the Czech pitching struggled as they gave up two walks and two wild pitches and hits by Gedionne Marlin (double to right field), Paris Aguilera (bunt) and Duncan Beljaards.
Thanks to this win, the Dutch remain unbeaten and will face the runner up from group A. This will likely be Italy as the Azzurri lost to Germany yesterday. The Germans won last thee editions of the U15 European Championship.
Sem Nijman earned the win after 1.2 innings in relief in which he gave up one run.
Average-wise Gedionne Marlin was the best hitter as he went 4 for 4 with one RBI.
Matis Crouwel, Justin Dambruck, Duncan Beljaards, and Paris Aguilera all drove in two runs.
