LG Twins too strong for Dutch

In the second practice game between the two teams, the LG Twins from the Korean KBO stayed at the right side of the score, beating Kingdom of the Netherlands 7-4. Unlike the previous game, the Dutch were not able to erase a deficit (of three runs).

Good old Rob Cordemans started the game for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Despite giving up a run in the first inning, he did a better job than in his previous start, keeping the Koreans scoreless, as he cruised through the second frame.

The Dutch tied the game in the second inning when Randolph Oduber drew a walk and advanced to third on a perfectly executed hit and run by Stijn van der Meer. Oduber eventually scored on a sac fly by Yurendell deCaster.

Jair Jurrjens took over on the mound in the third inning. In two innings he was very convincing as he pounded the strikezone with low 92 mph fastballs. He limited the opponent to a walk and a basehit in two innings

In the fifth inning, Shairon Martis gave up two runs (one unearned) thanks to a walk and an error by shortstop Gianfranco Wawoe in the fifth inning. One inning later the Koreans extended their lead to 4-1 but despite struggling, Martis got out of the inning on 6-4-3 double play.

After scoring a run in the sixth inning, the Dutch managed to tie the game at four in the seventh inning when Gianfranco Wawoe scored on Phildrick Llewellyn Jr’s single. Randolph Oduber eventually tied the game on a sac fly hit by Yurendell deCaster (yes, him again).

But with Tom de Blok on the mound, the LG Twins scored on a bases clearing triple to take a 7-4 lead. The Kingdom of the Netherlands could not push for more runs in the final two frames.

Today, there will be a training before the players will head to Korea. In Korea, two more practice games before it will take on Korea in their first 2017 WBC game.
