Dutch hoofdklassse 2019: Round 10, day 3

Schermafbeelding 2019-04-07 om 14.47.23After all games were canceled yesterday, one could consider today as day two. The rained out games are rescheduled for coming Tuesday. Today the following games were scheduled: DSS @ HCAW, Quick Amersfoort @ Silicon Storks and Meerlease Pioniers @ Oosterhout Twins.

DSS  7  –  10  HCAW
A see-saw game in Bussum where DSS took a 2-0 lead, HCAW tied the game, DSS took a 4-2 lead again, HCAW took a 5-4 lead, DSS took a 7-5 lead and HCAW bounced back again to take a 10-7 lead. DSS took the 2-0 lead when it scored a run in the second and the third inning. In the second inning, Ibrahin Redan advanced to third base after a failed pickoff attempt at first base. Redan scored on Runai Coran’s single to shortstop. With Mitchel Dautzenberg at second in the third inning, Tommy van de Sanden doubled to left center field. After HCAW was trailing for the third time, the team rallied for five runs in the eighth inning. The pitching of DSS collapsed as it gave up four walks, followed by a bases-clearing double by Bob van der Meer. Van der Meer was doubled home by Rodney Daal. Arij Fransen, who signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds the other week, shut the door for the save. The win went to Ian Delemarre, who pitched 1.1 innings in which he gave up one run on a hit and a walk and struck out one. Robyn Clara took the loss. He pitched 0.1 innings in which he gave up the three runs that gave HCAW the decisive lead.

Quick Amersfoort  2  –  15  Silicon Storks
There are those games that everything goes your way. Well today was one. Everything went Silicon Storks’ way. Things went even their way so much, they only needed seven innings to finish the game. Storks scored early when Giovanny Perez reached base on a throwing error, followed by a double down the left field line hit by Kevin Nieveld that drove in Perez. Luuk Visser came through with a single that moved Nieveld to third base from where he scored on a 4-3 groundout. In the next four innings, Storks would score eight runs. The only thing Quick Amersfoort could do was scoring two runs in the fifth inning. With runners in scoring position, Odion Gouverneur singled down the left field line and drove in Tijmen Takke from second base. When Denzel Brooks singled to left field, Odion Gouverneur scored from second base.
The biggest inning for Storks was in the sixth. In this inning they scored five runs to reach a thirteen-run margin that would end the game prematurely. A home run, two walks, a single and a triple drove in those five runs.
Jurrian Koks cruised through six innings in which he allowed two runs on six hits and a walk and struck out three for the win. Pastor Martinez lasted 3.1 innings in which he gave up six runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks. He also struck out two.
Kris Morris was the best hitter for Silicon Storks. He went 3 for 5 with a triple, two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.

Meerlease Pioniers  1  –  7  Oosterhout Twins
PioniersAn easy victory for Oosterhout Twins. Meerlease Pioniers didn’t play like a third-place team. The pitching wasn’t solid. The offense helped the opposing pitcher a lot. The result was a 7-1 victory for Twins. Twins’ starter Nick Vealer didn’t bring his a game. He had trouble finding the strikezone but still the Pioniers batters chased pitches and helped Veale through the game, even this much that he was on no-hit course through the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Raul Jacobs broke up his no-hit bid with a double to center field. For manager Jeffrey Arends that was the sign to replace Veale. Koen Postelmans took over and pitched two perfect innings in which he struck out two. His replacement also pitched perfectly for one inning and Stefan Ianelli pitched the ninth in shutout fashion. Nick Veale was allowed the only run Pioniers scored as Jason Halman wasn’t able to block a ball and let it pass. Twins’ offense took advantage of today’s ineptness of the Pioniers pitching. Twins got runners in scoring position in the first inning thanks to an HBP, a walk and a wild pitch before Shurman Marlin singled up the middle to drive in both runners. In the third, two singles and a double drove in three more runs for Twins. Eventually, two more runs were scored in the fifth. From there the Pioniers pitching settled down and kept Twins from scoring.
Despite struggling through five innings, Nick Veale earned the win as he allowed one run on one hit and four walks and struck out four. Lars Broersen took the loss after two innings in which he allowed two runs on two hits and a walk.
Average-wise, Brian Biezen was the best hitter for Twins as he went 1 for 1 with a double.
