Today, the final of the CEB cup was played. The opponents were the German runner up Heidenheim Heideköpfe and the Czech runner up Draci Brno. For eight innings, both teams were each other’s equal but in the eighth, the Heideköpfe struck hard and stepped off the field as the winner.
Eight innings long, neither team managed to score. Brno starting pitcher, Peter Moylan
lasted seven innings in which he gave up seven hits, issued no walks and struck out four. His opponent, Heideköpfe’s Enorbel Marquez allowed only three hits in eight innings as he walked one and struck out eight.
After Peter Moylan was replaced by Radim Chroust, things went wrong for Draci Brno. Chroust had a hard time to find the strike zone as he walked two and hit one batter with a pitch. Manager Pavel Budsky replaced Chroust with Martin Schneider. Gary Owens singled to left field to drive in two. Aaron Dunsmore followed with another single to drive in Simon Gühring.
Manager Klaus Eckle sent Justin Erasmus to the mound to shut the door which he did with the help of his defense. He walked the first batter but then served up the pitch to Zachary Wilson that ended up in a double play. Peter Cech lined out to second base for the final out and the save for Justin Erasmus. Marquez Enorbel earned the win, Radim Chroust took the loss.
Best hitter for Heidenheim was Simon Liedtke, who went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
With this win, Germany will have two representatives in the European Champions Cup next year, just like Italy and the Netherlands.
The Swiss Zürich Challengers beat Vindija Varazdin 16-1 in five innings. With this win, Switzerland will remain in the CEB cup. Croatia will be demoted the federation cup.
