After his name swirled around in the Dutch baseball scene for several weeks, L&D Amsterdam Pirates did not want to confirm if he would be the new head coach. But eventually, last night, the club introduced Brian Finnegan as its new head coach through its website.

Finnegan is a familiar face with the club from Amsterdam. First of all, because he managed the flagship team before (2002 and 2003) and also because he was the assistent coach of the farm team of the club since 2014.

During his 35 year career as a coach, Finnegan mainly coached third tier teams before he was appointed as head coach of Amsterdam Pirates at the end of 2001. During his stint with Amsterdam Pirates in 2002 and 2003, the team finished in the second half of the standings so it had to play to avoid relegation in 2002. In 2003 the team finished fifth in the regular standings. In the championship round, Pirates played fifteen games and managed to win only two.

Finnegan also coached several youth teams of Amsterdam Pirates and from 2013 through 2016 he was involved in coaching at the Amsterdam Diamonds Baseball Academy.
