Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort announces new head coach
The musical chairs in the Dutch hoofdklasse continue. Today Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort presented its new head coach: Glenn Romney. Romney announced the other week to step down as head coach of the farm team of L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Today it became clear why.
Last week DSS from Haarlem announced Marco Wels as its new head coach. Wels on his turn used to be the head coach of Quick Amersfoort in the past season.

The 42-year old Romney guided the farm team of L&D Amsterdam Pirates to a safe second place in the relegation group of the overgangsklasse (one level below the hoofdklasse). According to the website of Pirates, Romney laid a solid foundation of a young team and managed to develop those players in the past three seasons. Former L&D Amsterdam Pirates player Jesse Aussems will succeed Romney as head coach.
Romney has quite a career as a baseball player. He debuted in the Dutch hoofdklasse in 1995 with Quick Amersfoort. From 1997 through 2001 and in 2012 he played for HCAW, from 2002 through 2009 for Hoofddorp Pioniers, in 2011 he played for UVV. In 2014 he ended his career with the now-defunct AdoLakers.
Romney has twenty-four caps with the Dutch national team. In 1997, Romney debuted with the Dutch national team in the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam. In that same year, he also participated in the European Championship. Romney also participated in the World Cups in 1998 and 2003 and in the Haarlem Baseball Week in 1998 and 2004.
In 2003, Romney earned some personal success as he was the best hitter of the hoofdklasse in that year with an average of .367. In his final season, Romney batted a solid .404. With HCAW he won the national title in 1998.
