Former Helena Brewers sign PDC with Milwaukee name sake

The Helena Brewers that will play under a new moniker in Colorado Springs next season has agreed on a Player Development Contract extension with the Milwaukee Brewers. The new deal will run through the 2020 season.

The former Helena Brewers (Advanced Rookie, Pioneer League) will head to Colorado Springs as replacement of the SkySox (AAA, Pacific Coast League) that moved to San Antonio to play under the Missions moniker next year. The AA team that used to be the San Antonio Missions will move to Amarillo TX. All these moves are orchestrated by the Elmore Sports Group.

The former Helena team will play under a new moniker as the Elmore Sports Group has organized a name the team contest for their Advanced Rookie franchise.

According to Brewers’ Farm Director Tom Flanagan, the Brewers are excited to continue the partnership with the Elmore Sports Group as they usher in a new era of professional baseball in Colorado Springs. “Fans will sense the excitement of rookie-level baseball, as our players will make their affiliated baseball debut at Security Service Field. Colorado Springs will be an excellent first stop on their journey to the Major Leagues.”

The Helena Brewers joined the Pioneer League in 1978 as the Helena Phillies. After the Phillies left Helena after the 1983 season, the team played as an independent team in the Pioneer League for one season before the Milwaukee Brewers stepped in. After the 2000 season, the team moved to Provo, Utah to become the Provo Angels. In 2003, the Medicine Hat Blue Jays moved to Helena and became a Brewers affiliate again. The Milwaukee Brewers have been the parent club ever since.
