Promotion/relegation group: Round 1, day 2

On the second day of round two of the promotion/ relegation competition, DSS and De Glaskoning Twins clinched their second victory. Pickles UVV, on the other hand, made a mistake by losing to Quick Amersfoort. 

Pickles UVV  6  –  11  Quick Amersfoort
In a back-and-forth affair, the sixth inning made the difference for Quick Amersfoort. Both teams made it a close game.  Pickles UVV opened the score in the first inning as the team scored twice but Quick Amersfoort answered in the bottom of the first by scoring three runs. After both teams scored two runs in the fourth inning, Quick walked away in the sixth inning by scoring four runs. Jordy Burger drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a groundout to first base. Niels van Weert singled to pitcher Timo van Ancum that allowed Jordy Burger to advance to third. Bas de Jong’s single put runners on the corners and allowed Burgers to score. A fielders choice, a double and a throwing error led to three more runs in the sixth inning
After Quick added two more runs in the seventh, UVV scored two more runs in the ninth but Quick’s lead was too big to overcome. 
European U23 Champion and MVP Collin van Laar earned the win. In seven innings, he gave up four runs on eight hits, walked six and struck out two. Timo van Ancum lasted 5.1 innings and took the loss as he gave up eight runs on ten hits, walked four and struck out one.

Best hitter for Quick Amersfoort was Niels van Weert, who went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a RBI and four runs scored.

DSS  10  –  5  Onze Gezellen
After DSS had taken a 3-1 lead, it looked like Onze Gezellen would walk away with the win for a moment as the team scored four runs in the sixth inning. But eventually, DSS added six more runs to their total to secure the win.
After Byron Cornelisse had cruised through the first five innings, he started to struggle in the sixth inning when he gave up two consecutive walks. A throwing error that followed  on Milan Lammerts’ “hit”, allowed Jelle Kroft to score an unearned run. Nils Mica hit a double to center field that drove in Milan Lammerts and Dennis Blom. A single to center field, hit by Martijn van Diemen drove in the fourth run for Onze Gezellen.
But DSS flexed its muscles in the eighth inning. Three doubles, six singles, and a wild pitch led to six runs. 
Reggie Bomberg pitched four innings in relief and allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out one for the win. Tim van Leuven took the loss. In two innings in relief, he gave up five runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out one.

Best hitter for DSS was Sven van de Sanden who went 2 for 2 with a double, a RBI and a run scored.

De Glaskoning Twins  4  –  2  Storks
For a long time, it looked like De Glaskoning Twins would walk away with the win after the team took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. But in the eighth inning, Storks took a 2-1 lead out of the blue as Joran Berkhout slammed a two-run home run over the center field fence. But Twins managed to tie the game in the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Chris Gé grounded to first baseman Gino Gil, who attempted to record a force out but the throw was too late and Dennis de Quint could score the game-tying run.
He gave up a hit and a walk and struck out two.
After both teams had not scored in the tenth, Twins scored twice in the eleventh inning. Thijs Steenwijk, who had entered the game in the eighth inning, cruised through the three remaining innings and kept Storks from scoring for the win.
Former hoofdklasse pitcher Jurrian Koks lasted ten innings for Storks but got the no-decision. He gave up two runs on six hits and a walk and fanned thirteen (!) hitters. The loss went to Aaron de Groot, who gave up the two runs in the eleventh inning on two hits and two walks.

Best hitter for De Glaskoning Twins was Dennis de Quint, who went 3 for 5 with a run scored.
