Dutchies around the world, part 6

In this week’s edition of Dutchies around the world, we pay attention to Xander Bogaerts, Shairon Martis, Spencer Kieboom, Danny Arribas, Kevin Josephina and Wladimir Balentien.

Xander Bogaerts
The Aruban shortstop of the Boston Red Sox is having a good season at bat again. In 34 Afbeeldingsresultaat voor xander bogaertsgames and 131 at-bats, Xander collected 44 hits, resulting in a very respectable .336 batting average. Compared to the previous seasons, his home run production stays behind as he did not hit a dinger yet. After the month of April, in which he batted .315, his BA has fluctuated a bit, but it is on the rise nevertheless. So far in the month of May, Xander is hitting .362. In 34 games, Xander committed three errors.

Shairon Martis
After a long period without any news about the 30-year old pitcher from Curaçao, Shairon gave a sign of life last week as he wrote a message on Instagram about his arrival at the Orioles (extended) Spring Training camp in Florida. It is not clear yet how long he will stay there, but a season debut (possibly at AAA Norfolk) is imminent.

Spencer Kieboom
His role as backup catcher must be completely new for Spencer. With the Harrisburg Senators, Spencer has only played twelve games so far. At bat, Spencer is struggling mightily. During the first four games, he hit a solid .300 but ever since his batting average has declined and is hovering around .200 lately.
However, behind the plate, Spencer is still flawless and the percentage of thrown out base stealers has risen to 43%.

Danny Arribas
Danny is not thriving in his role as utility player yet. With the Bradenton Marauders, he has played only 22 games so far and is struggling at bat. His best game of the last ten he played was on April 30, when he hit 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, a RBI and two runs scored. Nevertheless, his batting average is going South. On that April 30, Danny lifted his batting average to .280 but is has dropped to .197 ever since.
So far Danny played on the corners of the infield, seven games at first base and one at third, and seven in right field. Despite playing a variety of positions, Danny hasn’t committed an error yet.

Kevin Josephina
Compared to last season, when he split the season between Advanced rookie and A Full Season, Kevin is hitting better. With the Rome Braves, the second baseman from Curaçao has a batting average of .283. His on-base-percentage is .325 and his slugging percentage stands at .311. Except for three doubles, Kevin did not produce any extra base hits.
On the defensive side, there is some room for improvement with six errors committed in 30 games (fielding percentage of .950).

Wladimir Balentien

Wladimir Balentien
Even though the 32-year old slugger from Curaçao isn’t on pace of his record setting 2013 season, Wladimir is still a threat at the plate. In yesterday’s 5-1 loss vs the Yomiuri Giants, he drove in the only run for the Yakult Swallows on a solo home run. In the last few weeks, Wladimir has improved his batting average tremendously to .290 with five home runs.
