So far, Xander Bogaerts has a slow start. A lot of twos in his stats. So far he played two games, collected two hits in nine at-bats, struck out twice, stole two bases and has a batting average of .222. On April 7, Bogaerts was placed on the bereavement list.
Kenley Jansen did not see much action yet. Manager Dave Roberts, called him up from the bullpen on April 5 to secure a 3-1 lead over the San Diego Padres. It may not come as a surprise that he did by retiring the side with a strikeout, clinching his first save of the season.
Also Jonathan Schoop comes off a slow start. So far he appeared in three games in which he collected two hits out of ten at bats. He scored three runs. Last night he got on base twice; once on a hit and once on a throwing error by Yankees’ third baseman Chase Headley. On the defensive side, he was part of four double plays and did not commit an error yet.
So far, Jurickson Profar struggles at the plate. In three games, he did not collect a hit out of eight at-bats. He has an on-base percentage of .111 thanks to a walk that he drew.
In his second game, Ozzie Albies got his first hit of the season as he went 1 for 6. Ozhaino singled on a fly ball to right field and also got on base on a throwing error and eventually scored the opening run for the Gwinnett Braves. He was also the initiator of a 4-6-3 double play. But his good efforts did not help the Braves fall to the Durham Bulls for the second time.
Jiandido Tromp went 0 for 4 in the first game of the Reading Fightin Phils (their first game rained out). In left field, Jiandido recorded three outs.
The Frisco RoughRiders were blanked by the Springfield Cardinals yesterday: 7-0. Juremi Profar wasn’t able to collect a hit out of four at-bats and his average dropped from .500 to .250.
Zander Wiel collected his first hit of the season. After going 0 for 3 in the game, he doubled on a line drive to left field and drove in two. But despite his double, the rally in the ninth fell short and the Fort Myers Miracle lost 11-8 to the Jupiter Hammerheads.
Ray-Patrick Didder got his first hit of the season as he went 1 for 4 with a double to right field. The right fielder came through in his final at bat. The game was won by his team, the Florida FireFrogs as they beat the Daytona Tortugas 5-4.
Once again, Darren Seferina collected one base hit (1 for 4) and once again he legged out a triple as the Palm Beach Cardinals won 3-2. Despite a first inning in which he recorded two outs, he did not have much to do at second base.
Chris Pieters made his debut with the South Bend Cubs after Thursday’s game was rained out. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a success as he went 0 for 4. He initiated a nice double play in the eighth inning as he caught a fly ball and fired the ball to second base to complete a 7-4-3 double play.
Spencer Kieboom had a great professional debut. Even though the Hagerstown Suns lost to the Asheville Tourist 11-1, Spencer went 2 for 3 with walk. There was only one flaw as Spencer committed an error as shortstop.
In game one of a doubleheader, Kevin Josephina went 0 for 3. In the second game, he did better as he went 1 for 3. In both games, Kevin recorded an out.
Both games were won by Kevin’s Rome Braves (3-0 and 3-2).
In the Kia Tigers’ 4-2 win over the Hanwha Eagles, Roger Bernadina went 1 for 4, raising his average to .250. After going 0 for 3 in his previous at-bats, Roger bunted in the eighth inning to the left side of the infield and showed off his speed as he legged out a single.
The Kia Tigers are 5-1 and in second place, trailing the LG Twins by a game.
The Yakult Swallows fell to the Hiroshima Toyo Carp 4-1. Wladimir Balentien collected one hit out of four at-bats, a base hit to left field. His average now stands at .259. The Swallows are now in fourth place in the Central League, trailing the league leaders Yomiuri Giants by three games with a 3-4 record.
The Buchbinder Legionaere from Regensburg, Germany had a bad start of the season. The team lost their first three starts. Last week, they lost all two games with double digits. Even Dutch pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek could not keep the opponent in check. Despite striking out seven, he lasted only four innings in which he threw 93 pitches. Mike allowed six runs on nine hits for the loss. Later today, Mike will have his second start of the Bundesliga season vs the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe, who beat the Legionaere last night 18-3.
