Carter Kieboom signs with Nats

Just a few days after he was drafted by the Wasthington Nationals, Carter Kieboom signed a contract with the Nationals.
Kieboom (pronounce boam, not boom) was the Nationals’ first round pick as he was drafted as 28th overall pick.
According to a source, Kieboom took his physical on Monday and will head to the team’s Spring Training complex in Viera Florida in a couple of days.

Carter was the compensation pick for Jordan Zimmermann who signed with the Detroit Tigers in the off season. According to a source the Nationals do see  him as their future shortstop, since he is an above average defender.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed by the Nats.

Carter is coming from a baseball family. His Dutch-born father played for HCAW in the Dutch Hoofdklasse before he moved to the USA. His older brother Spencer is ranked as 21st prospect in the Nationals’ farm system and is currently playing for the Nats’ AA farm team, the Harrisburg Nationals. Another older brother, Trevor Kieboom is playing first base but thanks to shoulder surgery, clubs are not standing in line for him.

Since Carter skipped college and was drafted right out of high school, it will be very likely that he will spend the rest of the season the Gulf Coast League.
