Dutch Hoofdklasse, Thursday June 25

On day one of round three of the second half of the season, the following games were scheduled:
HCAW @ UVV; Curacao Neptunus @ Mampaey the Hawks; L&D Amsterdam Pirates @ Corendon Kinheim; Pronto DSS @ Vaessen Pioniers.
HCAW @ UVV 8 – 4
A surprising result when you take into consideration that many experts tipped UVV as best of the rest (next to the top four of the hoofdklasse).
HCAW’s opened the game when Raoull Kortstam scored on a sac fly hit by Kevin Nieveld. UVV answered right away in the bottom of the first. Joris van Ballegooy led off with a walk, followed by a ball hti by GIlmer Lampe towards third base. As the third baseman Paula Emersson made a throwing error, Van Ballegooy advanced to third and Lampe advanced to second. As Dennis de Quint grounded out 1-3, Joris van Ballegooy scored the game tying run and Gilmer Lampe advanced to third. Sander Helmendach eventually balked in Gilmer Lampe to give UVV a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, with the bases loaded, UVV scored two more runs when Tony Enos drove the ball through the left side of the infield for a basehit. In the top of the fifth, HCAW cut UVV’s lead in half when Jelle Blaauw scored when Max Clarijs laid down what should have been a sac bunt. But pitcher Thijs Steenwijk made a throwing error on wich Clarijs reached first base safely and on which Blaauw could score. In the next inning, HCAW would turn around the game. Consecutive singles by Roy Seltenreich and Kevin Nieveld and a fielding error by second baseman Tony Enos on
Emersson Paula’s hit, loaded the bases. Then Thijs Steenwijk was replaced on the mound by Kevin Noordzij. This proved to be no solution as Gianni Frolijk hit a bases clearing double towards right center field, to give HCAW a 5-4 lead.
Another three run inning gave HCAW a four run lead over UVV after the top of the seventh inning
Sander Helmdendach picked up the win after lasting 5.1 innings on he mound. Sander gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits, walked six and struck out five. Thijs Steenwijk lasted five innings and was tabbed with the loss as he gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits and struck out three. Roy Seltenreich was the best hitter for HCAW. He collected two hits out of four at bats with an RBI and two runs scored. Best hitter for UVV was Brennan Nijhof, going 2 for 3.
Curacao Neptunus @ Mampaey the Hawks 9 – 3
After both teams scored a run in the first inning, Neptunus took a 2-1 lead in the top of the first inning. After Stijn van der
Meer and Dwayne Kemp singled, Benjamin Dille grounded into a 5-3 double play on which Dwayne Kemp advanced to second base. When Gianison Boekhoudt singled to right field, Dwayne Kemp could score the go-ahead run.
But the Hawks would bounce back. Louis J. Sienders singled down the left field line but stranded on second base when he was put out as a force out / fielder’s choice on Odion Gouverneur’s hit towards shortstop Stijn van der Meer.
Singles by Stephen Henson and Brian Raap eventually drove in Odion Gouverneur to tie the game. When Julian Goins hit into an unassisted out at first base, Stephen Henson scored the go-ahead run for the Hawks in the bottom of the third.
But their lead wouldn’t last long as Neptunus took the lead again in the fourth on a walk by Christian Diaz, a

L&D Amsterdam Pirates @ Corendon Kinheim 6 – 7
In an attractive game, in which the score went back and forth, L&D Amsterdam Pirates learned that Corendon Kinheim is on a roll. After Mervin Gario got on base and stole second, L&D Amsterdam managed to get the next two batters of Corendon Kinheim out. But after Philip Ortez walked, Jeffrey Arends singled to right center field, Mervin Gario scored the opening run. It took Pirates until the fourth inning to get on the board. Roelie Henrique led off with a single to left center field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Michael Duursma. Henrique scored on the double to right center field, hit by Nick Urbanus. After Kenny Berkenbosch grounded out, Nick Urbanus scored on Remco Draijer’s single to right field.

Linoy Croes then singled down the right field line to drive in Rachid Gerard. When Roelie Henrique hit into a force out/ fielder’s choice at second base, Patrick Bok scored the fourth run for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. But a disastrous bottom of the seventh inning, would give Kinheim back the lead again. Consecutive walks given up to Ortez and Arends, followed by a sac bunt laid down by Dudley Leonora, put
runners on third and second. When Dashenko Ricard grounded out 6-3, Ortez scored. At that point in the game, Tom de Blok took over from Dennis Burgersdijk on the mound. But de Blok couldn’t stop Kinheim’s offense. He gave up a walk to
Sven van de Sanden, followed by a single hit by Jochem Koedijk that drove in Jeffrey Arends. A homerun hit by Mervin Gario drove in Sven van de Sanden and Jochem Koedijk to give Kinheim a 6-4 lead.
The game continued to bounce back and forth when Pirates scored on Bas Nooij’s homer to right center field. After both teams didn’t score anymore, extra innings were needed. The tie breaker rule put Linoy Croes on second and Roelie Henrique on first for Pirates. When Michael Duursma grounded to third base, Kinheim tried to turn a double play but Roelie Henrique was safe at second. Nevertheless Kinheim was able to put Duursma out at first base. After Nick Urbanus was walked intentionally, Kenny Berkenbosch lined into an unassisted double play at third base. Kinheim put Brian Engelhardt at second and Niels van der Weert at first base in their tenth at bat. A sac bunt laid down by Jeffrey Arends followed by an error by pitcher Daan Hendrix loaded the bases for Kinheim. Dudley Leonora turned out to be the game winner as he drove in Brian Engelhardt with a single to right center field.
Arshwin Asjes earned the win. He pitched the ninth and the tenth and gave up only one walk and struck out two. Daan Hendrix took the loss as he gave up the game winning run to Kinheim. He also pitched the ninth and the tenth inning and gave up one run on three hits and issued two walks. Best hitter for Kinheim was Dudley Leonora who went 2 for 3 with an RBI, but the most impact for the team from Haarlem had Mervin Gario with his three run homerun.
Three hitters collected two hits out of four at bats for L&D Amsterdam Pirates.

Danny Rombley advanced to second on the play. When Vince Rooi hit the ball towards third base, DSS’ third baseman Seb Visser committed an error that allowed Rooi to reach first base safely and Danny Rombley to score the second run for Pioniers. In the top of the sixth, DSS had a chance to cut Pioniers’ lead in half when they had Mark Smit on third base with no outs. But two foul outs and a ground out spoiled the opportunity. Eventually
the defense of DSS collapsed as Rick Geestman allowed a run before he was replaced by Kevin Bosch, who allowed four runs (three earned).
