MLBPA and commish move towards 154 games

SInce Rob Manfred entered his office as new commish, he has talked about possible changes in the game.

One of them was to play shorter seasons. He opted to play 154 game seasons instead of 162 game season.
According to Manfred 162 games in 183 days is rather a brutal schedule. And don’t forget the 21 travel days.

Now the MLB Players Association, the players union, is favoring an 154-game season.
The question remains what will happen with the extra time? Will MLB add an extra play off round or will those dayd used as extra resting days? That is still not clear. In Japan they play about 140 games per season and they don’t play on Mondays.

A shorter season may even lead to less injuries in the long run. Players will be better rested, so the big stars will play more games, which may lead to more attendance per game.

Imagine that the shorter season may lead to an extra play off round. The fans will love it. It may generate more money for TV stations but not every team will reach the play offs, so a shorter season may mean less money for the owners.
So Manfred still has a lot of work to do before he can convince the owners to agree with a shorter regular season. They will have to vote on the subject and it will be a hell of a job to convince them.
