Remarkable “promotions” in Indy ball

In the Atlantic League (independent) af few remarkable promotions will take place.

The first one is not really a promotion but an experiment. But it is marketed as a family friendly promotion. The Southern Maryland BlueCrabs will play a seven inning instead of nine inning game. This is quite remarkable since the Atlantic League season is well underway. The experiment is to see if the fans appreciate a shorter game. This all has to be seen in the discussion about speeding up the game of baseball.
It remains to be seen if the game is a success and how that will be measured. It will be hard, especially when it will also be dollar hot-dog night at Regency Furniture Stadium, with season-ticket holders receiving a voucher for a free dog.

Another Atlantic League team, the York Revolution will hold a glutony celebration promotion
with a ballpark promotion that contains a seven innings of eating competition, wrapped into a single event.
The rules are as follows:  The rules are simple. At the beginning of the game preselected fans will be seated  behind home plate and served a unique food item at the top of each inning. The participants must finish the item before the next inning begins and a new item isrou served, otherwise that person is eliminated.  Each portion will be larger than the last as the competition continues, thgh the 7th inning.
The participant(s) who finish the 7th Inning Stretch Marks Challenge will be awarded a $50 Revolution gift card. Each participant  that drops out will be awarded a gift card, with the value going up by $5 for the longer a contestant stays in the competition, beginning at $10 for the first to be eliminated.

This is what will be served during the contest:

  • First Inning, Pulled Pork Hot Dog: A Hatfield hot dog topped with pulled pork and coleslaw on a Stroehmann Bun.
  • Second Inning, Pretzel Twist Nuggets: Pretzel nuggets topped with chocolate syrup, caramel, peanut butter and pecans.
  • Third Inning, Bricker’s Fries: A mound of crab-seasoned fries, covered in Nacho cheese.
  • Fourth Inning, Chocolate Éclair Funnel Cake: A Savory’s funnel cake with vanilla pudding, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
  • Fifth Inning: Little Caesars:  Pizza! Pizza!…and more pizza.
  • Sixth Inning: Soul Burrito:  A burrito with rice, beans, corn, salsa, melted cheese, lettuce (see, vegetables!), nachos, steak and sweet and spicy sauce.  This burrito is 18 inches long and weighs eight pounds.
