After the Mavericks and the Blaze were moved to the East coast at the end of the 2016 season, both Adelanto and Bakersfield will not be without professional baseball in 2017. The void left by the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros will be filled by the independent Pecos League.
The Pecos League, which is based in the states of Kansas, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona,did not wait long to jump into the empty spaces left behind in the two former California League towns.
The High Desert Mavericks will be replaced at Stater Bros stadium by the High Desert YardBirds. The Bakersfield Train Robbers will replace the Blaze at historic Sam Lynn Ballpark as the Topeka Train Robbers will relocate.
Pecos League commissioner and owner Andrew Dunn stated that the league is excited to play the 2017 season in High Desert. “I believe it will fit perfectly with the other cities in the league. We look forward to working with SBC Fairgrounds and the City of Adelanto. Adelanto Stadium will continue our mission to upgrade facilities in our league.”
“The Pecos League will is proud to have the Train Robbers play in Bakersfield for the2017 season,” Dunn said in a statement.
Both team will face each other in the Train Robbers home opener in Bakersfield on May 26, 2017.
