Today the folowing games were scheduled:

L&D Amsterdam PIrates –  Corendon Kinheim; Pronto DSS –  Vaessen Pioniers; Curacao Neptunus –  Mampaey the Hakws; HCAW – UVV

L&D Amsterdam Pirates – Corendon Kinheim  3 – 1

In a game where both teams got six hits, L&D Amsterdam Pirates was more effective. A three run second inning was enough to stay on the right side of the score.  In that second inning, Kenny Berkenbosch led off with a single to left center field. After Remco Draijer flew out to center field, Bas Nooij and Rashid Gerard singled. On the single of Gerard, left fielder Mervin Gario made a fielding error that allowed Berkenbosch and Nooij to score and Gerard to advance to third base. Jesse Aussems drove the ball to center field and thus batted in Gerard for the third run.
In the top of the third Jasper Keijzer singled to right field and advanced to second on the 1-3 ground out hit by Jochem Koedijk. After Kevin Moesquit drew a walk off Kevin Heijstek, Mervin Gario hit the ball down the right field line for a double that drove in Keijzer and advanced Kevin Moesquit to third base. But Heijstek retired the next two hitters to get out of trouble.
L&D Amsterdam had runners in scoring position in the third, in the sixth and in the eighth inning but could not cash in. Besides having Kevin Moesquit in scoring position at third base in the top of the third inning, Kinheim only got one runner in scoring position in the eighth. L&D Amsterdam Pirates killed Kinheim’s aspirations to put runners in scoring position by turning four double plays.
Kevin Heijstek pitched eight innings for the win. In those eight frames he allowed one run on five hits, walked four, struck out two and hit one hitter with a pitch. Nick Veltkamp took the loss in six innings of work. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, walked three and fanned three.
Linoy Croes went 1 for 1 in a pinch hit at bat. Three of Pirates’ hitters went 1 for 3. Kalian Sams collected three of the six hits for Kinheim as he went 3 for 4.

Pronto DSS – Vaessen Pioniers  1 – 6

Without flexing their muscles Vaessen Pioniers cruised through this game. They outhit DSS 10 – 2. Even committing four errors could not keep them from winning this game. In the top of the second inning, Pioniers got on the boards as they scored two runs. Lead off hitter Mark Jan Moorman was hit by a pitch and scored on a triple to right center field hit by Kevin Weijgertse. Weijgertse scored on a double by Paul Brands. DSS cut Pioniers’ lead in half in the bottom of the third inning as Lex Leijenaar drew a lead off walk and advanced to second as Mitch Dautzenberg hit the ball towards shortstop Max Draijer who committed a fielding error. As catcher Quintin de Cuba tried to throw Mitch Dautzenberg from first, he made a throwing error and both runners advanced one base. As Tino van Erk hit a single to right field, Leijenaar scored for DSS. Mitch Dautzenberg tried to score from second but was nailed at home plate on the throw by right fielder Dirk-Jan van ‘t Klooster.
Vaessen Pioniers scored one more run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to reach the final score.
Lars Huijer cruised through seven innings for the win. He allowed one unearned run on one hit, walked two and struck out eight. Timo van Lingen, who is part of DSS’ rookie league team according to their website, pitched five innings in which he allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits. He walked two and struck out four. Tino van Erk and Seb Visser were the only two DSS players that got a basehit. Three hitters of Pioniers collected two hits out of four at bats.

Curacao Neptunus  –  Mampaey the Hawks  10 – 0

In a one-sided, mercy rule shortened game Curacao Neptunus outhit Mampaey the Hawks 13-6. In fact it wasn’t much of a game since Neptunus was way too strong. DIegomar Markwell pitched only five innings for he win. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out four. Benjamin Dille was the best hitter for Neptunus with three hits out of four at bats. He drove in one run and scored one himself. Bobbi Carrington took the loss for the Hawks. In three innings he allowed four runs on five hits, walked four and struck out one. Best hitter for Mampaey the Hawks was Steven Wharwood, who went 2 for 3 and stole a base.
If you want to know how the scoring went, here is the box score:

MAMPAEY THE HAWKS 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 6 3

HCAW – UVV   3 -1

HCAW recovered very well from Thursday’s blow out loss. Nevertheless UVV took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, despite the quick outs of their first two hitters in that inning. Consecutive singles by Sam van Dijck and Dennis Ribbens put runners on first and second. Norbert Jongerius also hit a single that drove in Van DIjck. Ribbens went to third and was tagged out on the 7-2-5 throw for the final out of the inning. Untl the bottom of the seventh inning it looked like HCAW would stay on the wrong side of the score again. HCAW’s first two hitters were quick outs. But Jim Ploeger could not get out of the inning. Consecutive singles by Max Clarijs, Rikkert Kempen and Jazon Allee, drove in Clarijs for the game tying run and to put runners on first and second. A double steal lifted the force play and put both runners in scoring position. Then Peter van Doesburg drew a walk to load the bases followed by a wild pitch by Jim Ploeger that allowed all runners to advance a base and Van Kempen to score the go-ahead run. A throwing error by third baseman Omar Williams on Boyd Tuhumury’s hit allowed Allee to score the third run for HCAW. Once again, Maickel Rietel did not earn the win, but at least he did not get the loss as Steven van Groningen shut the door for UVV in the remaining 2.1 innings. Rietel lasted 6.2 innings in which he allowed one run on seven hits, walked two and struck out five. Van Groningen worked the 2.1 innings in perfect fashion with one strikeout. Jim Ploeger got the loss after 6.2 innings of work. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, He walked three and struck out eleven (!). It must be very bitter that a good performance was spoiled by one bad inning. Rickert van Kempen was the best hitter for HCAW, going 2 for 3 with a strikeout and a run scored. Sam van Dijck had similar numbers for UVV except for the strikeout.
This win will be a boost for the moral of HCAW. Most important, the team played without committing an error.
