Yankees and Dutchies in the Majors, April 6
The Yankees were no match for the Blue Jays. Masahiro Tanaka could keep the Blue Jays at bay for two innings, but allowed six runs, of which five earned. Didi Gregorius didn’t get a basehit in two at bats, but reached base due to a HBP. After Brian McCann got a base on balls, Gregorius tried to steal third base, but he came short thanks to a perfect throw by former Yankee Russell Martin.
The Red Sox flexed their muscles vs the Phillies and confirmed their role of favorites. Xander Bogaerts didn’t get a hit in three at bats and left two runners on base, but he managed to draw a walk.
The Orioles were too strong for the Tampa Bay Rays, beating the Floridans 6-3. Jonathan Schoop went 1 for 4 and was fanned once. He was the center piece of a 6-4-3 double play.
In a game that was won by the Mets with 3-1, Matt den Dekker got a pinch hit appearance against his former club in which he struck out. Oldie Bartolo Colon and the expensive acquisition of the Nats, Max Scherzer battled each other in an old fashioned pitching duel. Eventually Colon became the winner. In six innings he allowed one earned run (on three basehits) and a walk and fanned eight.
In a very close game, the Braves beat the Marlins 2-1. Andrelton Simmons didn’t manage to get a basehit out of four at bats. Andrelton left two runners on base. On the defensive side, Andrelton tagged out Giancarlo Stanton at third when he tried to reach third base from first on a basehit to left field by Martin Prado. Andrelton was also the starting point of a 6-4-3 double play when he backflipped the ball to second baseman Jace Peterson.
