Holland Series 2014: Game 7

Game seven of the Holland Series turned out to be a game that a championship game should be: A nailbiter.

Runs didn’t come cheap.

For five innings both teams didn’t score despite having some runners in scoring position. The tie was broken in the bottom fo the sixth when Reilly Legito singled through the left side of the infield. Gianison Boekhoudt then singled up through the middle. Both runners advanced on a passed ball; it turned out to be a very expensive error for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. L&D Amsterdam Pirates’ manager Charles Urbanus decided to give Kalian Sams an intentional walk to load the bases for the easy out. That easy out came at second when Sams was put out on a force out/fielders choice hit by Dwayne Kemp. Reilly Legito scored the opening run for DOOR Neptunus on this play.

After this sixth inning, Both teams didn’t come close to scoring a run, so Neptunus repeated as Dutch champion.

Rob Cordemans earned the loss, despite pitching a complete game. Berry van Driel earned the win and Kevin Kelly got the save.

Even though I had loved to see Pirates to clinch the championship, I tip my cap to Neptunus. Even after trailing 2-0 in games, they never gave up.

I received this photo from a colleague. This is great. Even after the bitter rivals lost, they congratulated Neptunus  with the win.
