Recently released by the Seattle Mariners, Lloyd McClendon already has a new job as a manager. With the Toledo MudHens, the AAA International League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

After five losing seasons with the Pirates from 2001 through 2005, McClendon was hired as a manager of the Seattle Mariners in 2014. In his first year he guided the M’s to a 87-75 record but despite several acquisitions , he couldn’t guide the Mariners to a better position than the fourth place in a weakened American League West.

Now the Detroit Tigers have hired McClendon to manage their AAA farm team.

“I am very pleased to have Lloyd McClendon managing the Toledo Mud
hens in 2016,” says Dave Littlefield, Detroit Tigers V.P. of Player toledomudhensDevelopment. “He is a passionate competitor, experienced baseball man and strong leader. Toledo’s players and our minor league development system will benefit w/ Lloyd at the helm.”

Next to seven years as a manager, McClendon has eight seasons experience as an MLB player under his belt with the Cincinnati Reds, the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

McClendon replaces long time MudHens manager Larry Parrish, who has decided to hang up his spikes. Parrish was at the helm of the MudHens for over ten years and guided them to back-to-back International League championships in 2005 and 2006.
