The Milwaukee Brewers’ AA farm team, the Biloxi Shuckers will host the parent club in an exhibtion game on April 2nd 2016.
The Brewers will make a detour to the Gulf Coast town on their way home from their Cactus League Spring Training facility in Maryvale AZ.
The brand new affiliate of the Brewers, previously playing in Huntsville Alabama, where they were the Huntsville Stars, will host their parent club in their brand new MGM Park, the newest stadium in the Southern League.
The Shuckers started their season with a 25 game road trip because MGM Park had suffered from construction delays. They played their home games at other facilities; their former home in Huntsville, Joe Davis Stadium was one of them. Eventually MGM Park opened its doors on June 6 2015 when the Shuckers hosted the Mobile BayBears.
This exhibiton game will be the first that the Brewers play in Biloxi. It will even be the first time since 1935 that an MLB franchise is playing in Biloxi. In that year, the Washington Senators (currently the Minnesota Twins) held spring training in Biloxi Stadium.
The last couple of years several MLB clubs has played an exhibition game at one of their minor league affiliates. You can say that this has become a trend.
