Rockers trade Kalian Sams to Miners
The High Point Rockers of the independent Atlantic League have traded Dutch outfielder/slugger Kalian Sams to the Sussex County Miners of the CanAm League. The trade completed a trade made on January twelve. Back then, the Rockers took over Breeland Almadova for a player to be named later, which appeared to be Sams.
Sams’ numbers stayed behind compared to his previous seasons in independent baseball. Sams played two seasons in the Atlantic League with the now defunct Camden RiverSharks. But his career with that club was cut short due to injuries.
In the 2015 – 2018 seasons, Sams played in the CanAm League with the Québec Capitales.
Sams debuted last night with the front runner of the Atlantic League. The Miners hosted the Ottawa Champions, fifth place in the six-team CanAm League and won 13-6. Sams entered the game as a substitute player and got two at-bats but in both plate appearances the Dutch slugger grounded out.
His former team, the Québec Capitales let him know that they did not consider a return of the Dutch outfielder. So far this season, the Capitales are dead last of all CanAm teams. The standings tell the team is in seventh place but since the league is inviting teams from abroad (Cuban national team, an All-Star team of the Shikoku Island League and a team from the Empire League) to play against CanAm teams, the team is actually in sixth place.
With the Capitales, Sams batted .290 with 62 home runs, 5 triples and 69 doubles. Sams is literally a journeyman as his baseball career brought him to countries like the USA, Taiwan and Mexico.
