A couple of days ago, the Winnipeg Goldeyes announced through their website the release of Curaçao native Juan Carlos Sulbaran. Today, Sulbaran placed a photo on Instagram, showing his passport and a ticket to Amsterdam airport.
After a long absence due to an car accident shortly after the 2017 World Baseball Classic, in which he left a good impression with team Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sulbaran signed a deal with Silicon Storks from the Hague, out of the blue.
In three starts, Sulbaran posted a 0-1 record with an ERA of 4.00. After about a month, he packed his bags and left for Canada to join the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the American Association. In six starts Sulbaran posted a 5.96 ERA with a 1-2 record.
It looks like that after his lenghty rehab, he still needs to find his groove as 5.96 is not really something to write home about.
But the reason behind his release was the problems he had with a visa for the USA. He did not manage to get one so he could not join the team as they had to cross the border.
With a ticket for Amsterdam airport, it is very likely Sulbaran is returning to The Hague to pitch for Silicon Storks again in an attempt to avoid relegation. With one round left in the regular season, Storks has played 39 games of which they won three and finished one with a tie, so the club can use every reinforcement it can get.
