Curaçao Neptunus signs Loek van Mil

Loek van Mil will join the ranks Curaçao Neptunus from Rotterdam. The tall pitcher from Oss in the Netherlands signed a deal with the Rakuten Golden Eagles last year but spent most of the season at Ni-Gun level (the Japanese Minor League). He was called up at the end of the season and pitched in 8.2 innings in which he posted a 4.15 ERA. After a disappointing season the Eagles didn’t offer new contracts to Andruw Jones and Loek van Mil.

Eventually Curaçao Neptunus jumped in and persuaded the Dutch pitcher to join their ranks. Van Mil will fortify an already very strong pitching staff.

Van Mil had a professional career in the US with several MLB organizations: Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds. He was never able to make the step to the Bigs but was very close at AAA level. His last season with an MLB organization was 2013 when he pitched for the Reds’ AA team, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos of the Southern League and for the AAA Louisville Bats of the International League.

Next to pitching for the Hoofdklasse team of Neptunus, Van Mil will also take care of young pitchers and support them in their pitching education.
