It’s The Richmond Flying Mummies

Those who follow my blog for a longer period, may know I am a sucker for authentic ball caps and uniforms. Since yesterday, there is a new club in the Northwoods League with the coolest uniforms ever.

The newest addition to the Northwoods collegiate baseball league is the Richmond Flying Mummies. The Richmond we are talking about is not the one in Virginia, but the one in Indiana. The city is roughly located between Dayton (OH) and Indianapolis.

But why the nickname Flying Mummies? First of all the club wanted to honor the Wright Brothers, who were from the area, officially from Dayton OH though. Second of all, Richmond is known for two Egyptian mummies. One is exposed at the Wayne County Historical Museum, the other at the Joseph Moore Museum of Natural History. So the name Flying Mummies makes sense although it may be a bit far fetched.

Then the uniforms. We’ll start with the caps.
The home cap is black and sports a mummy/pilot head with a pilot hat and ditto goggles. The road cap is also black but with a white button on top and with white eyelets at the top of each panel. The logo is a mummified R wearing a pair of pilot goggles. There will also be an alternate red cap with the same logo as the road cap. The caps are Richardson PTS20 caps and IMHO, the price of $44.00 is rather steep.

Then the uniforms. The home uni is the best uniform yours truly has ever seen. If you are interested in (old Egyptian) history, you may like this one as well. When you look to the home uniform it is like you are seeing a walking mummy as the design is like there are bandages all over, even on the pants. The authentic home jersey can be pre-ordered for $109.00.

The word mummies is printed on the jersey in a kind of “spooky” way. On the left sleeve of the home jersey is an alternate pilot/mummy logo, and on the right sleeve, two “mummified” baseball bats are depicted.

The road jersey will be black and will sport the name Richmond on the front. The mummified baseball bats will be on the left sleeve and the alternate mummy/pilot logo will be on the right sleeve.

Last but not least, the alternate uniform. This will sport a maroon jersey with a mummy/pilot head on the left chest and the uniform number on the right chest. The jersey comes with a white pants.

The Richmond Flying Mummies will be part of the thirteen-team Great Lakes Division.
