During the Congress of the WBSC Europe in Belgrade, Serbia, the European governing body of baseball and softball has named Dutch umpire Edwin A. Louisa umpire of the year.
Recently, Louisa earned the honour to be invited as an umpire for the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Today, Louisa made the announcement through his social media channels Facebook and Instagram about him being honored.
On the question how the WBSC Europe makes this decision, Louisa answered they judge umpires during European tournaments. In his case, he called games during the European Champions Cup and during the U23 European Championship Qualifier in Lithuania in 2022.
Edwin is one of the best umpires, if not the best in the Netherlands, so the decision by the WBSC Europe is justified.
