With the end of the transaction period in Belgian baseball behind us and most teams have been placed in the limelight, it is time to pay attention to the transactions of the Merchtem Cats.
There is not much to tell about the transactions of the Cats. According to chairman Anton Siebelink, three players will not be on the 2023 Cats roster.
Import player/coach Rusty Huber will not return for the 2023 season. To fill the void the pitcher/shortstop left, and to fill another spot, the club is having contact with two possible candidates, but the negotiations are still ongoing.
Due to private circumstances, Zino De Lauw (3B/P), who is an active tennis player as well, and Duncan Eager (3B) will not be able to play in the upcoming season.
Unfortunately, the 2022 stats are not visible any longer, so no further information about the performances of the three players can be given.
Besides the aforementioned three, no players have left the flagship team.
Only one player will join the club for the 2023 season. Miguel Perez from the Division two team of the Brussels Kangaroos will enforce the ranks of the Cats. Likely the fist baseman/outfielder will split time between Division 1 and Division 2.
Except for the three players that will not be on the roster this year, the core of the team stays the same. Last year the Cats were a young team with talented players, so the team can only improve. Likely, the results for 2023 will be better than in 2022.
As soon as the two import players are signed, you will read it here.
I would like to thank chairman Anton Siebelink for the time he took to provide the much-needed information to write this blog post. Your help is appreciated.
