This series is inspired by the must-read book “All Caps, Stories That Justify an Outrageous Hat Collection” by Craig Colby. Craig wrote this book about the many caps he has and the stories behind it. Anyhow, this series will be about the caps I own and the stories behind them.
In today’s episode of “Personal Stories About Ballcaps,” we pay attention to one of the former alternate caps of the Columbus Clippers.

A few years ago, I was a member of a Facebook group about baseball uniforms. But the atmosphere was ruined by a lot of political talk and polarization, so I decided to start my own group in 2019. In the meantime, the group has grown tremendously. Currently, it has 1,457 members.
I don’t like to boast, but through the years, I managed to build a nice baseball collection with caps and jerseys. But compared to the collections of some members, my collection is only peanuts. One of those other collectors is my fellow admin Davy. He has a tremendous collection of jerseys and an even bigger collection of baseball caps.
At one point, I showed a cap of the Stabroek Chicaboos, which I acquired at Belgium’s only baseball store. This cap sports an old English C on the front and the Belgian flag in the outline of Belgium on the back. Since Davy is a sucker for flags and topography as well, he loved this cap immediately.
Since he is visiting several games of the Columbus Clippers in a season, I proposed a cap trade. I would send him this Stabroek Chicaboos cap in exchange for a cap of the Columbus Clippers. Luckily, he liked the idea. He asked me which cap of the Clippers I liked since they had a shipload of game caps in their online store. Eventually, I picked one of their alternate caps, one that isn’t in their store no longer.
It took a short while before the cap I sent to him, arrived. Unfortunately, it took very long for the Clippers cap to arrive. Once again, the Belgian mail “service,” Bpost, was overzealous, claiming I had bought the cap and I had to pay import taxes. It took me quite some weeks to convince them that this cap was a gift sent by Davy. I really had to show screenshots of the conversation we had on Facebook Messenger.
But eventually, I received the cap, which is a nice addition, the twenty-second MiLB cap of my collection.
