Fortitudo Bologna Retreats From Participation in The European Champions Cup.

The team that would play next to Italian champion San Marino, after it decided to decline participating in the European Champions Cup, has decided not to participate either. Yesterday, http://www.ilrestodelcarlino.it announced Fortitudo Bologna has withdrawn as well.

Thanks to this decision, Parmaclima Baseball will be the lone Italian representative for now. Parma was appointed the replacement of San Marino.

According to the President of Fortitudo Bologna, the decision was painful. The whole board of the club was involved in the decision. Since the club thinks the format of the Serie A is obsolete, it hesitated to participate in it as well. Eventually, Bologna decided to play in the 2023 Italian championship. But according to the club’s president, the team will not be tested and therefore, it will not particpate in the European Champions Cup.

Bologna is not happy with the format of the European Champions Cup either. According to the article in http://www.ilrestodelcarlino.it, Fortitudo Bologna is working on a project regarding the highest level of European club baseball. The club wants to work to a European club championship that can have maximum appeal, guaranteeing tight and spectacular matches. Which offers the possibility of seeing the interest of the public grow. The club states that the WBSC Europe has shown utmost interest.

Bologna will meet with the WBSC Europe on the subject in the first week of February.
