Today, the WBSC Europe held the drawings for the four groups of the 2023 European Baseball Championship. Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Israel are the top teams of their groups.

The four groups were put together in a drawing that took about twenty-five minutes, as a lot of talk surrounded the event.
Group A contains the following countries: Spain, Austria, Czechia, Greece
The next four countries will play in Group B: Italy, Sweden, Great Britain, and debuting Hungary
The Netherlands, Ukraine, Croatia, and France (back after a demotion in 2021) will play in Group C.
Group D will contain Israel, Germany, Belgium, and debuting Switzerland.
The 2023 European Championship will be played in five cities in Czechia, as was announced last Thursday. The tournament will be held from September 24 through October 1.
The fact that Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain are groupheads, doesn’t come as a surprise as these four countries were the top four countries of the previous European Championship. Likely, these four countries will be the main candidates to clinch the European title.
In Hungary, the tournament has a surprising participant. As Russia was banned from all international tournaments, the three countries that qualified for the three team playoff for two tickets to the main tournament advanced automatically. Hungary is one of these countries, next to France and Switzerland.
