Through their Instagram account, Oosterhout Twins announced the signing of a pitcher from Czechia for the 2023 season.
With the loss of Ryan Huntington, Oosterhout Twins had to look for pitchers outside the borders of the Netherlands to strengthen its pitching staff.
The pitcher we are talking about is Filip Čapka. Čapka played for the Czech national team and for his hometown Draci Brno. According to baseball jobs overseas, he has some college experience (Wake Technical College) and pitched in Australia as well. His fastball hits 90 mph. Next to pitching, Čapka can also play the outfield.
Filip can throw two- and four-seam fastballs, a slider, a changeup and a curve. The velocities on his pitches range from the high 80s to low 90s (fastball), low 80s (slider), high 70s (changeup) and mid 70s (curve).
In 2015, Čapka made his debut in the Czech Extra Liga for Draci Brno. He moved to Třebíč Nuclears in 2017, but that wasn’t a real success, as he posted an 0-2 record with a 4.74 ERA. After his sidestep to Třebíč, he returned to Brno where he pitched for the Dragons through the 2022 season. Throughout his career in the Czech Extra Liga, he posted a lifetime ERA of 3.31 with a 25-11 record (.694).
Filip has primarily been a starting pitcher, but he has been an effective reliever when needed. He is very comfortable as a closer.
