As honkbalsoftbal.nl stated, L&D Amsterdam Pirates has beaten Curaçao Neptunus for the seventh time in a row in the Holland Series. The streak dates back to 2019, when the club won four in a row after trailing Neptunus 3-0 in that year’s Holland Series. In the corona troubled 2020 season, L&D Amsterdam Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the Holland Series before the series was canceled due to COVID-19. So today, it was the seventh straight win in the Dutch championship series for the still reigning Dutch champion.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates 2 – 0 Curaçao NeptunusAccording to the schedule, the Holland Series would start tomorrow, but the weather forecast didn’t promise very good weather, so the series started today, with Curaçao Neptunus hosting L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
It was a game that was worthy to be played in the championship series. A true pitching duel even though, the Neptunus pitching allowed eight hits. Shairon Martis pitched a shutout gem in which he limited his opponent to only three hits in a complete game.
In the third inning, Curaçao Neptunus had the chance to break open the score with runners in scoring position and no outs but a groundout, an infield fly (as Stijn van der Meer had drawn a walk) and a fly out denied Neptunus scoring a run. Pirates on the other hand grabbed the first opportunity it got, one inning later. With runners on first and second, Sicnarf Loopstok doubled to left field and drove in Denzel Richardson from second base. Kalian Sams advanced to third on the play. A sac fly by Rashid Gerard allowed Sams to score the second run for Pirates. In the following innings, a series of relievers limited L&D Amsterdam Pirates to four hits and kept Pirates from scoring despite allowing a runner on third in the eighth inning.
Shairon Martis earned the win. In six of the nine innings, he retired the side as he struck out four. Diegomar Markwell took the loss. In four innings, he allowed two runs on four hits and two walks and struck out one.
Sicnarf Loopstok was the best hitter for L&D Amsterdam Pirates as he went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
