Modern caps are made of synthetic fabric. This makes them huge dust catchers. Especially the minor league caps made by New Era attract a LOT of dust but so do the modern MLB caps. I want to show you an easy way to dust off your caps.
Of course, you can use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the dust but in my experience, it leaves ugly scratch marks quite often. A more gentle way to get rid of the dust is the following one.
I take this former Rancho Cucamonga Quakes cap as an example (I still curse the day the Quakes got Dodgerized and turned to blue as the main color instead of black).
As you can see, there is a lot of dust on the cap even though I store it in a closed box.
To clean the cap, take a sponge you use in the kitchen.
Sweep the colored side of the sponge over the lid and the crown to remove most of the dust as shown in the video. Please be aware not all of the dust will be removed. Sometimes the dust is rather persistent and hard to remove. But after sweeping all the panels of the cap, you will see a clear difference.
Please make sure you will replace the sponge after a while.
