According to yahoo.co.jp, Curaçao born Wladimir Balentien has reached a basic agreement with the Softbank Hawks. The Japanese news website states that the news will be announced officially by the Hawks later this year.
That Balentien has decided to join the Hawks, doesn’t come as a surprise. In the past months, he could not hammer out a deal with the Yakult Swallows as the latter still had sole negotiation rights. During that time, the Softbank Hawks were investigating if the acquisition of Balentien would be useful.
As soon as Coco became a free agent officially, the Hawks sent a negotiator to his US residence to negotiate. A two-year contract worth $9 million and the promise he could wear his beloved jersey number (4) appeared to have won Balentien over.
In the last couple of days, he kept his fans in the dark about his decision with posts on Twitter and Instagram.
With the acquisition of Balentien, the Softbank Hawks will boost their already powerful lineup. Balentien will be the second player from the Dutch kingdom on the roster of the Hawks as they extended the contract of Dutch hurler Rick van den Hurk with a year, recently.
